Yes, during the Ladies’ Christmas pub crawl, an “incident” occurred. Was it a stiletto heel? A mistimed trick shot? An ambitious swerve attempt after one too many festive refreshments? Nobody knows for certain. The truth may never be revealed.
What we do know is this – our middle table was left with a tear that no amount of sticky plaster, tape, or wishful thinking was ever going to fix.
When a Patch Job Just Won’t Do
At Wargrave Snooker Club, we take our tables seriously. With three full-size tables maintained to a high standard, our members expect a consistent, true roll and a surface that rewards good cueing.
So when the baize on the middle table was damaged, a quick fix simply wasn’t an option. This deserved a proper solution.
That meant calling in the experts.
Enter John Smith – Cue the Hero Music 🎯
A few days later, John Smith arrived and got straight to work. What followed was a masterclass in table recovery.
Off came the damaged cloth.
Out came the tools.
On went a brand-new, tournament-level baize.
For around four to five hours, John worked his magic, carefully preparing the slate, stretching the cloth, and ensuring every inch was perfectly finished. Watching the process was fascinating – and reassuring – for anyone who cares about the quality of the game.
This wasn’t just a re-cover. It was a full professional refurbishment.

By the end of the day, our middle table looked absolutely superb.
Smooth.
Fast.
True.
And ready for action.
With the new cloth in place, it now matches the excellent standard of our other two tables, giving members three consistently high-quality playing surfaces.
