The 2025/2026 season came to an exciting conclusion at Wargrave Snooker Club with three closely contested finals and some excellent snooker throughout the evening.
Both singles finals required all three frames, while the doubles competition produced an impressive comeback after the opening frame. The result was a fitting end to another enjoyable season of competitive snooker at our friendly Berkshire snooker club.
Brian Passmore Cup: Vyronos Wins Three-Frame Thriller
The Brian Passmore Cup final brought together Andy Vyronos and Jarno Seegers in a match that remained close from the opening break to the final colours.
The first frame could hardly have been tighter. With the scores level after the final black, the deciding ball had to be respotted. Jarno held his nerve and potted the respotted black to take a dramatic 1-0 lead.
Andy responded strongly in the second frame. He settled into the match, found his rhythm and produced the snooker needed to level the final at 1-1.
That left everything resting on the deciding frame.
Once again, there was very little between the two players. Both had opportunities and the standard of play remained excellent, but Andy finished strongly enough to take the frame and complete a hard-earned 2-1 victory.
Congratulations to Andy Vyronos, the 2025/2026 Brian Passmore Cup champion and to Jarno Seegers for his part in such an entertaining final.
Les Wellavize Memorial Snooker Cup: Barnwell Edges Smith 2-1
The Les Wellavize Memorial Snooker Cup final was contested by Jerry Barnwell and Richard Smith and it proved to be another excellent three-frame match.
Jerry began well and produced a confident performance to take the opening frame. Richard responded in the second, keeping himself in contention before finishing particularly well. With the frame in the balance, Richard produced good pots on the final three colours to secure the frame and level the match at 1-1.
The deciding frame was another competitive affair. Both players had chances, but Jerry rallied well during the closing stages and did enough to claim the frame and the match.
The final score was 2-1 to Jerry Barnwell, who became the 2025/2026 Les Wellavize Memorial Snooker Cup champion.
Well played to both finalists for producing a close and enjoyable contest.
Mike Gosling Memorial Cup: Sandom and McGovern Complete the Comeback
The Mike Gosling Memorial Cup doubles final followed the two singles matches and featured Jerry Barnwell and Jarno Seegers against Glene Sandom and Des McGovern.
Jerry and Jarno made the stronger start, combining effectively to win the first frame and move within one frame of the trophy.
Glene and Des responded impressively.
They played well to take the second frame before carrying that momentum into the decider. Glene was in particularly good form throughout the match, contributing a series of important pots and consistently strong play.
Des and Glene completed their comeback by taking the final two frames and winning the match 2-1.
Congratulations to Glene Sandom and Des McGovern, the 2025/2026 Mike Gosling Memorial Cup champions,and to Jerry Barnwell and Jarno Seegers for helping to produce another entertaining final.
A Great Night for Wargrave Snooker
All three finals finished 2-1, which reflects just how competitive the evening was.
There were close frames, confident clearances, pressure pots and plenty of moments when the outcome could have gone either way. Most importantly, every match was played in the friendly and sporting spirit that makes Wargrave Snooker Club such an enjoyable place to play.
